
The South African performer, Louise du Toit, is an award-winning soprano, musician, composer, lyricist, writer, director, actress, and painter. At the tender age of 13, she started her professional career as a stage artist by portraying the role of Louisa in The Sound of Music for PACOFS. This was followed by numerous more solo performances in choirs, musicals, operettas, operas, theatre plays, and radio and television shows, leading to a career of more than 30 years in the entertainment industry. As an acclaimed international songwriter, her songs are regularly broadcasted by radio stations in many countries and in 2015, she joined the ranks of Moby, Bonnie Rait, James Taylor and other famous artists when her song, Ode to Magnificence, was featured in the American award-winning film, Medicine of the Wolf.
On moving to Athens, she worked as a singer, pianist and violinist at lots of different venues, performing at the Residence of the South African Ambassador in Greece on several occasions, and doing radio and television work for the Greek media. On meeting her husband, Athenian musician, Christos Koulouridis, they founded Fuego de Lunar, an international band with which they have given more than 4500 live performances at well-known venues in Europe during the past 20 years.
In May 2016, Louise became the female vocalist of a grand operatic show titled Sempre Libera, in which she has been performing for the past two years in Corfu with Prima Voce. She was the founder and main vocalist of a ten-member swing band, titled The Sha-Sha Sisters and the Dukes, with which she performed at many Corfu venues during 2015 and 2014. She was also the writer, arranger, director, and scenic designer of the musical, The Witch of Woccabocca, of which two sold-out performances were staged at the Municipal Theatre of Corfu in Greece in 2011, in collaboration with the Ionian Odeon.
As a painter, her unique African art was displayed at Stablus in 2007, as well as the Municipal Art Gallery of Corfu, the Residence of the South African Ambassador in Athens and the Grecotel Corfu Imperial in 2008. Her latest exhibition was in May 2011 at the Municipal Art Gallery of Corfu, consisting of the scenery, costumes, and stage props of The Witch of Woccabocca.
Louise du Toit holds a BA Degree in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, as well as numerous diplomas for her classical piano and violin studies of more than 12 years at Unisa and the Royal College of London. In 2005 she also obtained her degree in Opera and Classical Singing with full honours in Greece. She has since been giving vocal and piano lessons to numerous students and professional artists.
Her latest projects include working in "Cabaret" as the musical assistant to Greek conductor, Alexios Priftis, at the Athenian Pallas Theatre; participating in Season Four of ITV's "The Durrells"; and writing and performing 6 tracks on "The Best-Loved Poems of William Wordsworth", published and distributed in England by Strawlitter Productions. Recently, she also performed in special concerts in South Africa and Colorado with co-artists Prima Voce and Stamatis Seraphim.
Louise is very active in the field of animal defence. As the artistic spokesperson for several international wildlife and environmental organisations, she continues to use her music and art to spread a worldwide message of conservation.
